Many of Naxos’ outstanding archeological attractions are just a short drive away, such as the Portara gate or temple of Apollo and Iria, the temple of Dionysus. There are of course remains of ancient towns scattered across the island and tour guides that can take you several thousands of years back in time. Don’t forget to ask about the giant marble Kouroi (plural of Kouros), referring to the two huge Ancient Greek marble statues that were being sculpted on the island and were left unfinished for reasons unknown.
